Privacy
Urth doesn’t collect any data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no ads.
Your notes
Your notes are plain text files stored on your devices and in your own iCloud Drive. They’re never sent to us.
Sharing a note
Share Urth Link turns a note into a link. For non-Urth users, the link shows the note on https://urth.app. The whole note is encoded inside the link itself, after the “#”, so it isn’t stored anywhere: not by us, not on a server. Browsers never transmit anything after the “#” to a website, so the note never reaches https://urth.app. The encoded link is unpacked by the reader’s own web browser.
Anyone with the link can read it, and so can anyone they pass it on to. A link can’t be taken back, so don’t share anything private.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, sees that someone visited (their IP address and browser), but not the note. There are no analytics or cookies. Theme links work the same way.
Editing a shared note on the page and sending it back makes another link of the same kind, in the reader’s browser. Again, nothing is sent to us. If you pick a theme on the page, that choice is kept in your own browser only. The bookmarklet runs in your browser and hands a page to the Urth app on your Mac; it talks to nothing else.
Weather
If you turn on weather in daily notes, Urth sends your location (or the city you choose) to Apple Weather to get the forecast. Apple handles it under its own privacy policy. Urth keeps only the resulting sentence in your note.
Calendar
If you turn on events in daily notes, Urth reads today’s events on your device to list them in the note. They go nowhere else.
Backups
On a Mac, optional backups are copies of your notes saved to a folder you choose.
